Community Builder App

Community Builder was made in order to help build up communities during natural disasters, pandemics, or any situation in which your neighbor may be in need of assistance. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, I noticed there is a lack of accessible resources that make it easy to help or receive help in my community. This app is intended to make people feel more comfortable asking for help from others, find trust in their community, and to allow people to empathize with those who are more affected by this new reality.

People are affected differently by disastrous situations that happen every day. Some need help and others want to help, but both want an easily accessible anonymous way of doing so. Something that could easily exist with the technology we have today, but sadly doesn’t. Community builder solves this problem by giving communities a platform to face hardships together.

Research Methods

Before creating Community Builders I needed to do research to make sure I was meeting the many needs of people facing hardships. Below you will find some research methods I used to come up with a sustainable solution for those in need in communities around the world.

Research through surveys and articles that helped me define the problem.

With these research methods I found ways that Community Builder can easily accommodate it’s interface to allow for a seamless journey while maneuvering through the app. Some of the design decisions influenced by my research include: a safe vetting process to ensure the safety of all users, anonymous profiles, and help buttons for users who may not be as tech savvy.

Community Builder

This is a video walk-through of the app from the point of view of a new user. Users are able to pick the option of helping people or receiving help because situations may change for individuals at any time. I thought it was important to allow a messaging opportunity for users to understand each other on a deeper level and to allow them to interact with a community dashboard to stay up to date with things going on in the community.
